The Palo Verde Valley District Library has a small, hard cover genealogy reference section available for use by the public. Specific information may be photocopied for twenty cents per page. Special genealogy reference materials may be ordered from SUTRO. Contact reference librarian for ordering procedure. There is a magazine index available for searching for magazine articles from the past 4-5 years. The Palo Verde Valley District Library has the only microfilm collection available of the local Palo Verde Valley Times newspaper dating back to 1911. A sizeable collection of large print books are available for circulation A variety of audio tapes are available for circulation. Videos check out overnight for 50 cents per night. Test Proctoring is available by appointment. Materials from other libraries may be obtained via the Interlibrary Loan program. Materials ordered, but not picked up, will be charged a 5 dollar service fee. See the reference librarian for ordering information. The Palo Verde Valley District Library has a collection of books written in Spanish. The library subscribes to the magazines, Vanidades and Buenhogar. The current edition is kept in the library, but back issues can be checked out for a week at a time. There is a Spanish language computer available with current encyclopedia, atlas, five childrens' programs and word processing capabilities available. Maximum use is an hour per day. Patron must have a library card in good standing, read library policy and sign a release form before use. Prior sign up for desired time slot is recommended.
A Pre School story time is offered every Wednesday at 10:15 AM from October to May. Young children must be accompanied by an adult. Each session is about 40 minutes long. During June and July each Summer, a story time program is presented Wednesdays at 10:15 AM for all children up to 6th grade. There is also a reading program offered whereby children from Pre school to 12th grade can read books and get prizes for the books read. Call the library at (760)922-5371 for information on specific dates of these activities. Children's Use On Library Computers Four Library computers have special instructional and recreational programs available for use by children. Child (or Parent if the child is below 6 years old) must have a library card in good standing. Parents must accompany children under 12 years old. Children below 18 years of age must have special permission from their Parents/Guardians with a specific Internet waiver before they can use the Internet on their own. They also must have a library card in good standing. Limit one hour a day per person. Prior sign-up for desired time slot is recommended. The Palo Verde Valley District Library has five computers available for internet use. Users must have a library card in good standing; read, accept and sign the Library's public Internet access policy. Each person may use the computers for up to one hour per day. Computer time may be reserved a day in advance. Walk-ins are accommodated only if there are available time slots. The library participates in the Library of California InFoPeople computer project. Materials already checked out can be placed on a waiting list free of charge. Books may be returned in the book drop near the front entrance when the library is closed. Do not return videos, puzzles, or audiotapes in the book drop. Reference questions or specific titles not found within the the Palo Verde Valley District Library Collection can be searched at other California libraries through several library networks.
